Bernie

“The world is a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.”
(said someone else, but Bernie likes you to believe he is one witty quipper.) He sees improv as a potluck party and has collected ingredients in Chicago, Geneva, New Zealand, and London. Bernie loves the team aspect of improv. He teaches it at Storylabor, and spends his free time talking to the fairies in his vegetable patch.

Fidel

“Certified Tree Hugger”
Fidel is a latin passionate bringing his Ecuadorian style to our group, sometimes spanking us on our birthdays. At least he told us that was the custom…When he isn’t climbing trees he is saving them. He is a story builder and is excellent at driving the story forward. He tells people his birthday is the 2nd Feb 2000 because he has a phobia of odd numbers.

Founding member and Treasurer of Hoi Polloi Verein 2023 – present

J.C.

“Thinks improv would be better scripted”
J.C. is a multi-talented multi-tasker, who applies his athletic background to his day to work and his improv. He enjoys building with other players and taking the scene in interesting directions, whichever direction it goes in it will be funny. His side hustle is recording and selling EVPs to haunted house owner wannabes.

Miranda

“Empathy nurtures wisdom”
Miranda crossed the Atlantic ocean only recently to enable teaching and to teach. She started her improv career in Stanford CA, and enjoys both performing and teaching improv. As a scene builder she adds subtle details to paint a brighter picture for the other players and the audience. She’s the last person still on Myspace.

Neera

“Who needs Reality?”
Neera almost made it in Bollywood until an undisclosed scandal brought her to Switzerland BSG (Before Spice Girls). Nowadays she watches Bollywood from afar when she isn’t teaching English and loves improv as it’s a space where she can abandon her cultural and professional appropriacy and embrace a quirky Improv- Avatar.

Vivien

“Likes the play of improv”
Vivien can’t decide if he’s French or Greek but at least has decided he likes improv – which is lucky for us. He enjoys bringing the fun to the game, jumping in the void and creating something from nothing. His favorite restaurant in Zurich is the SBB on-board train bistro.

Previous players

Adela

“See one, do one, teach one….. or do one, see one, teach one”
Adela has been harnessing her improv skills since she moved to Switzerland in the early teenies. She loves creating fun and interesting characters, using facial expression, body posture and different voices to offer the audience a unique personality in the scene. Siri is her best friend, not your best friend…

Founding member and secretary of Hoi Polloi Verein 2023 – 2024

Tracy

“Don’t eat yellow snow”
Tracy, a Brit who found her way to Switzerland in early 2019 and has been improving and improv-ing since catching the bug after attending workshops in Brussels and London. She enjoys the speed of short-form and the craft of the longform. She identifies as a Leo despite being born in April.

Founding member and President of Hoi Polloi Verein 2023 – 2024

Amy

“The art of laugh”
Amy walked like an Egyptian, via Canada, to Zurich in late 2019. She loves the escapism from the daily grind that improv offers and finding the fun in the scene with her fellow troup members.  She only sits down to eat for brunch and lunner.

Alessandro

“Improvs to escape his daily superhero job”
Alessandro counts things by day and we count on him to bring the unexpected by night. He likes where his ideas go and building on the ideas of his teammates. Each weekend he tries to achieve his ambition to get drunk on Feldschlossen Zitrone 0%.

Brahim

“I’m a scene starter, twisted scene starter”
Brahim is a Tunisian who moved to Lausanne a few years ago and joined theater and improv groups for a few years. Now in Zurich, he’s looking for a new adventure and new and innovative concepts to play. Brahim likes building deep characters and sending pictures of his nose to his friends (true story).

Isabelle

“In it for the creativity”
Isabelle has been in improv troups in France and Zurich, and tells us we are her favourite. Isabelle loves the physicality of improv and bringing her fellow players into her imagination. She still wears velcro shoes as she never learned to tie her shoelaces.
